constellations #75: 2022 in frame
Hi again,
I hope you made it through the solstice intact (or, if not, that you were changed for the better). Last week, a few days ahead of the shortest day of the year, Matt and I stood on our roof and thought, We’re in it — these are the darkest days, and it doesn’t even seem that bad, and shorter nights are just around the corner. It felt so good to be surprised by our own resilience.
I’ll be back in your inbox next week with a bonus edition of this newsletter, a big reflection on the year that lists the things that guided me through it (as is my tradition). But in the meantime, in honor of it being the 24th, here’s a brief selection from my 2022 camera roll. One photo for each month — just a little slice of what I saw this year.

Here are some other things I have been consuming lately: SOS by Straw Man Army and SOS by SZA; “Attention All Pickpockets” by The Mountain Goats; The Hours at the Met Opera, and also the movie of the same name; Stay True by Hua Hsu; the end of a couple books I started reading over the year but didn’t finish; a lot of movies (Triangle of Sadness; You’ve Got Mail; Tár; All The Beauty and the Bloodshed); the second season of The White Lotus; some phenomenal concerts (Special Interest and Soul Glo; Perfume Genius; Tomberlin; Palehound; Hop Along); green tea Kit-Kats; this email-as-short-story; the Christmas lights in Dyker Heights; a power outage; many, many hours of Matt’s holiday music playlist.

See you soon. Happy holidays.
xo,
